Uninstall Windows Vista or Reduce System Requirements or buy more RAM?

I just bought a brand new HP Pavilion dv2000. It came with Windows Vista pre-installed, along with about 1gb of Physical Memory. Now, from what I undertand, this is a pretty close to the bare minimum required for Vista, and if we want to use this maching to play games, we need roughly 2x that much RAM.

Since your hardware is new, installing XP might not work as XP may not have drivers for all of the hardware. Keep that in mind and find XP drivers for every piece of hardware in the computer before you try to install XP, if you decide to go that route. In my case, XP wouldn't install on my computer because it insisted I didn't have a hard drive. The problem was that I had a new motherboard with new SATA controllers.

I'd say buy more RAM. More RAM never hurts, and 1GB shouldn't be more than $100 or so. It will depend upon what your computer takes, which should be either in your manual or online.
