Amplifier protection circuit troubleshooting?

ok so i wired up my amp and i keep having the same problem...i have an idea of what the problem is i just wanna see if anyone else thinks of it without me saying it first...just so i can reasure myself of the problem...the amp turns on when the level is on low...but as soon as i start to turn it up and get past half way it turns off and the protection circuit led comes on...any idea what the problem is...my subwoofer is wired up correct and everything i know that...i have the impedence bridged to the amp at 8 ohms (its a dual voice coil sub wired in series to create a 8 ohm load)...so yea im looking for a pro or semi pro explanation to why my system is going out...and by the way its a 1998 chevrolet camaro...so if the problem pertains to the car then now u know...thanks

What is the recommended RMS of the sub? The protection circuit can be activated by a few things, Thermal, Overload, and Short circuits. With an 8ohm load I don't see it getting too hot, unless it is a fault in the amp. Also most amps will go into protect when voltage is too low, I would take a reading at the main power wire with a multimeter when it is in protect and make sure the voltage is not too low. If the voltage is low, then it is probably a problem with the wire (bad connection, or corrosion increasing resistance), or it is not big enough, what gauge wire are you using? Also check for a good ground connection.
