How can a couple in a blended family nuture their relationship without alienating their children?

We have been married for 1 year. We have 5 teens, ages 14-17. They are all watching us under a microscope. They compare time spent with them, time we TRY and spend together as a couple, and every facial expression, comment made, or activity done. At the time of this writing they are all getting along and being pleasant - 2 days in a row! I love my kids and don't want to ignore them for the sake of my marriage. I feel pulled in two different directions. I want all the relationships to be successful.
