Cake mixing help?? Hand mixer broke--can I stir it?

Ok, so my hand beater just broke and I don't have another mixer. For a one layer chocolate cake is it okay to stir it instead? I have to make a chocolate cake for a friend and I really don't have the time to go to the store and get cake mix or buy another mixer. Thanks! Please answer!

You can definitely beat it by hand. And you don't have to do 300 strokes. All your beating should be done before adding the flour mixture so that all you have to do is mix it in until it's incorporated and it's ready for the pan.
