Surfboard Repair Kits Guide & Review 2010
There are so many Surfboard Repair Kits available today that it can be a difficult decision to choose which one will be the most effective for you. For beginner surfers, then deciding which one you actually need for your surfboard can be the biggest problem. We are going to run through the various Ding Repair Kits, what they do and what to use them on.
There are two main types of repair kits that are commonly used and they are Fibreglass Repair kits and Epxoy repair kits. Depending on your board will depend on the kit you will need to fix it.
Fibreglass Repair Kits (Standard for most used surfboards) - Polyurethane Foam Boards
These type of surfboards are the ones mainly used and are most likely to get dinged and are not as strong as epoxy surfboards, but are lighter and generally more manauverable.
For surfboards that are polyurethane foam then you will need a polyetser resin Ding Repair Kit. This type of resin is temperature sensitive and when exposed to the sun or light will cure, or dry to harden over the area. This is particulary handy if you are looking for a quick fix and dont have the time to use a full repair kit. Most products are listed as standard repair kits or resin repair kits.
You will need to make sure that the surfboard has dried out in the area that you wish to repair and its advisable to sand the area so that its as smooth as possible when applying the resin. If you are unsure if the area is dry or that there is still water in the board, be patient and let it dry a while longer.
You can either buy a resin in a tube that simply squirts on the area and dry or a more accomplished kit that comes with fibreglass cloth, sandpaper, resin, mixing pot, hardner and sticks for application of resin. These are used for the more serious dings and gashes on your surfboard. The fibreglass cloth is used to strengthen the area of repair and when the resin and hardner is applied over this, it drys and forms a more secure tight bond on your board. Again, let the area dry out and smooth off with the sandpaper before applying resin and hardner. Below is a list of some product for standard fibreglass surfboard repair:
1. Ding All Standard Repair Kit
2. Ding All Suncure Repair Kit
3. Ocean & Earth Solacure Resin
4. Ding All Suncure Fibrefill Mini Repair Kit
Epoxy Surfboards - EPS Foam
These surfboards are much more stronger than normal fibreglass surboards and have a different type of foam in them. Hence they need to be repaired with a different resin called epoxy resin. The same process as above is applied as above with the preparation of the area the same, but DONT mistake the resin's as putting on a polyster resin onto an epoxy board, and vice versa, will have disastrous results!!!...trust us. Below is a list of some products for epoxy surfboard repair:
1. Ding All Epoxy Repair Kit
2. Session Saver Ding Repair - PU & Epoxy
3. Ocean & Earth Epoxy Resin Repair Kit
4. Ding All Epoxy Repair Stik

Where can I find a good clear coat scratch repair kit?
I have a scratch on my door that is too deep for a rubbing compund but not through the paint. I believe I've seen kits for this type of repair but I'm not sure where or what would be a good one to get. Any info and links would be helpful. Thanks
I have 3M products.. The scratch is too deep.. Do people even read?
Most good auto parts stores will carry rubbing compounds. I buy from Carquest. Don't buy the cheap kind. Look for a bodyshop quality compound for around $20. 3M makes a good microfinishing compound. Part # 06011
