Upgrade notice due to MSN user wishing to add me to their contact list?

I am getting a notice from YM each and every time a contact signs into YM. The notice states that a user from MSN wishes to add me to their contact list. In order for this to happen I must upgrade my YM to the latest version. Nope sorry. I used the latest version and it dragged my pc to its knees with the endlessly repeatedly ad content. It was a times using over 50% of the CPU's processing so I removed that version and went back to an earlier one I had kicking around. Now is there anyway to stop this message from being sent to me? And as far as the contact goes.. it never identified who the user of MSN was that wished to add me which I found a little annoying. I have subsequently found out who it was and since I also use MSN they have been added there so at this point there is no need for me to upgrade so as to add them in YM. Now again how do I get rid of this message which appears when a contact signs in and when I sign in myself?

(In response) -- You are not alone, as have been suffering the identical annoying issue for months! Agree completely re: "No upgrade!", however, receiving the 'notice' is likely due to the older Messenger version. If / when you resolve this, please share with the rest of us!?
