How to Repair and Upgrade Windows XP with the Help of Installation CD ?

STEP 1. Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD drive and reboot the computer. The screen will prompt you to "Press any key to initiate setup. Press any key on the keyboard and the recovery CD will begin loading the system setup. Just calm down while the installer finishes loading, as this may take several minutes to complete.

STEP 2. Keep an eye on welcome screen once the installer has finished loading. Press Enter once to continue. Using your up and down arrow keys, select your existing windows installation. Now press "R" to repair it. This will start a recovery install without formatting the hard drive or removing any existing data.

STEP 3. Before recovery process starts, accept the EULA if required and enter your product key, depending on what installation disk you are using. A product key is a combination of 25 alphanumeric characters.

STEP 4. Wait for the recovery process to reinstall the system files. It may take around 50-60 minutes. Once it is completed, Windows will reboot.

How do I upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Win7 Home Premium on a NetBook?

I just purchased the upgrade from bestbuy.com. I do not have it, i just want to know what i have to do in order to go through this process. I do not have a dvd/cd drive because i have a toshiba netbook. are there any certain things i need or is there just a product key i need to put into a registration form from like the windows website? I'd first ensure you bought the less expensive Starter to Home Premium "anytime upgrade." If you bought the normal Home Premium upgrade that can come from things like XP and Vista, you spent more than necessary.

Assuming it comes on disk, you'll need to attach an external USB drive, or transfer the files from the disc to a USB drive you can attach. I believe you'll need to run the disk (or files off a USB drive) so it can add files to your current install, and you'll need to enter your new key, too.
